The Europe Arab Bank (EAB) is hosting a Financial Forum at the London Stock Exchange on 15th October 2009. The Forum will be broadcast via live web stream at 12.45pm and you can watch the debate at www.eabplc.com.
‘Managing the Crisis: The response of the MENA regulators’ will welcome HE Dr Umayya Salah Toukan, Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan, HE Farhat Omer Bengdara, Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, and HE Taoufik Baccar, Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia as keynote speakers. Guest moderator will be John Humphrys, the highly regarded Journalist and Broadcaster.
The focus of this Financial Forum will be the new conventional wisdom which asserts that global financial markets will survive and flourish only if public authorities are actively involved in promoting this through various regulatory activities.
The challenge is to strike a necessary balance between creating an environment that improves stability and confidence in banking but does not impose a straightjacket that dampens economic recovery and growth. EAB’s Forum provides a rare opportunity to hear from banking experts from the Middle East, a region that has enjoyed rapid growth and prosperity in recent years, on how they are meeting the challenge.
The January/February issue of World Finance, distributed at Davos, will include an editorial feature which will draw on the insight from the panel discussion with the Governors of the Central Banks at the Financial Forum, whether Middle Eastern banks have a regulatory system to be feared or embraced' and what needs to be done to reduce the probability and the severity of future financial crises.
EAB’s Financial Forum will no doubt be thought provoking. Make sure that you don’t miss any of the action by logging on to www.eabplc.com at 12.45pm on 15th October 2009.
